区别辨析depart、leave、go、start、quit与set out

这些动词均含“离开某处”之意。

depart : 较正式用词,指经过周密考虑或郑重地离开,强调离开的起点。

  • Flights for Rome depart from Terminal 3.
    飞往罗马的班机从3号航站楼出发。
  • She waited until the last of the guests had departed.
    她一直等到最后一个客人离开。
  • The train departed Amritsar at 6.15 p.m.
    火车在下午6点15分离开了阿姆利则。

leave : 侧重出发地而不是目的地。

  • I'll be leaving at five o'clock tomorrow.
    我明天早晨5点钟离开。
  • He left the house by the back door.
    他从房子的后门离开了。
  • She left the group of people she was with and came over to speak to us.
    她离开了人群,走过来和我们说话。
  • The bus leaves in five minutes.
    公共汽车5分钟后发车。

go : 一般用词,指从所在地到其它地方去,着重目的地而非出发地。

  • Is it midnight already? I really must go/must be going.
    都已经到半夜了?我真的得走了。
  • She wasn't feeling well, so she went home early.
    她感到不舒服,所以提前离开回家了。
  • What time does the last train to Bath go?
    去巴斯的最后一趟火车什么时侯开?
  • I'm afraid he'll have to go (= be dismissed from his job) - he's far too inefficient to continue working for us.
    恐怕他得走人了——他实在太不称职,没法继续在这儿干下去。
  • This carpet's terribly old and worn out - it really will have to go (= be got rid of).
    这张地毯破旧不堪,磨损严重——必须得换了。

start : 可与leave换用,强调目的地,但不及leave普通。

  • What time are we starting tomorrow?
    我们明天什么时候出发?

quit : 侧重指离开令人烦恼的地方,或摆脱使人不快的人或事。

  •  We decided it was time to quit the city.
    当时我们决定,该离开城市生活了。
  •  The landlord gave them all notice to quit .
    房东通知他们都搬出去。
  • Police were called when he refused to quit the building.
    他拒绝离开那座大楼,于是人们叫来了警察。

set out : 书面用词。

  • When setting out on a long walk, always wear suitable boots.
    每次出发远行,都要穿合适的鞋子。
  • The troops are about to set out.
    部队就要出发了。
  • They set out in a westerly direction along the riverbank.
    他们沿着河岸向西出发了。
  • He got up at four and set out on foot to hunt black grouse.
