According to ProPublica, the aunt said she could not help her niece because she and her own 9-year-old daughter are seeking asylum. 原来一个是asylum，一个是shelter。根据《剑桥词典》，asylum定义如下：
艾莉森所处的shelter译为“避难所”也有点问题。既然是“避难所”，就要有“难”可避。比如下面这两句话：
- The crowd ran for shelter when the rain started.
- They sought shelter from the storm.
非法移民子女被强制安置在shelter并不是为了躲避任何灾难。与其说“避难”，倒不如说是这些孩子迎来了灾难。这时，shelter可译为“收容/安置所”。
Shelter还可译为“救助站”，比如homeless shelter和domestic abuse shelter，救助的对象分别是无家可归者和家庭暴力受害者。可能不会想到用shelter翻译的“自行车棚”和“防空洞”分别是bike shelter和bomb shelter。
