Spelling Bee

Karthik Nemmani.

  • Koinonia:
  • Intense:
  • Clasp:

Karthik Nemmani was declared champion of the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday night, winning on the word “koinonia” and surviving what was arguably the most intense competition in the bee’s 93-year history.

Often, Nemmani spelled with his arms clasped behind his back, barely betraying emotion.

  • Bewusstseinslage: 意识
  • Trophy:

When it was down to two contestants —— him and 12-year-old Naysa Modi, also from the Dallas area —— Nemmani remained calmas Modi misspelled “Bewusstseinslage.”

“She’s a really, really good speller. She deserved the trophy as much as I did,” Nemmani said of Naysa. “I got lucky.”

  • Revenge:

“I wouldn’t say it was revenge,” he said.“We weren’t against each other. We were against the dictionary.”

威斯康辛人最常拼错的单词是: Wisconsin(威斯康辛)。
