区别辨析blaze、flame、flare、glow、glare、flash、glitter、twinkle与light

这些名词均含有“火焰、烈火、光”之意。

blaze : 指猛烈燃烧所发生强烈的光。

  • Dry wood makes a good blaze.
    干木柴烧得旺。
  • The campfire smouldered for hours after the blaze died out.
    营火在火焰熄灭后闷烧了好几个小时。

flame : 指一条或多条火舌,多用复数形式,指由许多火舌构成的大火。

  • The flames grew larger as the fire spread.
    火势蔓延,火焰越来越高。
  • The car flipped over and burst into flames (= started burning immediately).
    汽车翻了,顿时起火燃烧起来。
  • When the fire engine arrived the house was already in flames (= burning).
    消防车赶到时,房屋已是一片火海。

flare : 指摇曳的火焰。

  • There was a sudden flare when she threw the petrol onto the fire.
    她把汽油倒到火上时,火焰一下子蹿了起来。
  • The flare of the match lit up his face.
    火柴的光照亮了他的脸。

glow : 指像冶炼铁和钢时发出的红光。

glare : 指眩目的光。

flash : 指突然发出而随即消失的闪光。

glitter : 指连续发出闪烁不定的光。

light : 普通用词,指日、月、星或灯等的光。

  • Light was streaming in through the open door.
    光线从敞开的门口倾泻进来。
  • It's a north-facing room so it doesn't get much light (= brightness from the sun).
    房间朝北,所以光线有些不足。
