区别辨析gaze、glare、stare、peer与glance

gaze、glare、stare、peer与glance这些动词都有“看、瞧”之意。

gaze : 指出于羡慕、感兴趣、关心或惊异而长时间目不转睛地看。

  • She gazed at him in amazement.
    她惊异地注视着他。
  • He sat for hours just gazing into space.
    他一连几个小时坐在那里茫然地看着前面。

glare : 指用愤恨、凶狠或含敌意的眼光死死看着某人。

  • He didn't shout, he just glared at me silently.
    他没有喊叫,只是默默地怒视着我。

stare : 侧重因惊奇、好奇、粗鲁无礼等而睁大眼睛看。

  • She looked at them with dark staring eyes.
    她那双深色的眼睛专注地看着他们。
  • Tamara stared at him in disbelief, shaking her head.
    塔玛拉一边狐疑地盯着他看,一边摇着头。

peer : 指眯着眼睛仔细地或略为吃力地看。

  • I had been peering at a computer print-out that made no sense at all.
    我一直盯着看一张毫无意义的计算机打印稿。

glance : 指匆匆地或粗略地一看,侧重心不在焉地、匆忙地看一眼。

  • I glanced up quickly to see who had come in.
